Opal Uses the Commonwealth Games to Inspire her Play

This morning Ben and I had talked about putting the artistic gymnastics from the Commonwealth Games up on our big screen for him to share with us exactly what he had enjoyed watching over the weekend. A small group of children sat and watched the gymnastics while others used our very own kindergarten ribbons to experiment  with movements that they saw the professional gymnasts carry out.

As the different gymnasts performed they used different pieces of equipment like balls, ribbons and hoops. After some time experimenting with the ribbons Opal approached me and asked...
"can you help me get a ball and a hoop from the shed?"
It wasn't long before Opal directed me to where we would find a ball and hoop. Tino pai rawa atu - Aboslutely aweome!

Opal began by putting the hoop on the ground and throwing the ball into the centre of it, in the beginning the ball didn't always land in the middle but it wasn't long before each time it did - practice makes perfect!

Opal played with the hoop and ball outside in creative ways, trying things out, experimenting, and persevering as she practised using each piece of equipment in different ways.
It wasn't long before others showed interest in what Opal was doing and found their own equipment to join in alongsdie her. Opal took much prode in this and shared ideas and strategies with Hanna.
